Industry Nine Classic hubs are the heart of your wheelset, everything revolves around them, literally. Every Classic mountain hub is made start to finish in our Asheville, NC machine shop. From turning and milling bar stock 7075-T6 aluminum for shells, axles and endcaps, wire EDM cutting A2 tool steel for pawls and driverings, to our own in-house anodization lab, every step of design, engineering, manufacturing and assembly is done on premises to our exacting standards.

Hydra Classic mountain hubs are loaded with features every rider will appreciate such as revolutionary 0.52° engagement, generously low weights and an intuitive layout that can be serviced without any proprietary tools. Our range boasts a universe of standard options in terms of axle fit, spoke hole drillings, disc rotor mounting, freehub bodies, and colors. E-bike compatible.

Will this fit my frame?

It covers a wide spread of standards: 10×135, 10×135 bolt-on, QR135, 12×135 and 12×142 – which takes in most singlespeed and older hardtail frames, whether they use quick release, bolt-on or a bolt-through axle.

Measure across the inside faces of the rear dropouts to find your width, then tell us which axle type your frame uses. If you’d rather we checked, send us the frame make, model and year.

Why is this only available in 32 hole?

Singlespeed drivetrains put all the load through one sprocket and one chainline, so the rear wheel takes a harder, more concentrated beating than a geared wheel does. 32 spokes is the sensible build for that, and it’s the only drilling this hub comes in.

It also keeps things simple – almost every rim is available in 32 hole, so you won’t be hunting for a match.

How much engagement does the Hydra have?

690 points of engagement, or 0.52 degrees between them – still quicker than almost anything else available.

On a singlespeed that matters more than it does on a geared bike. You can’t drop a gear when the trail pitches up, so you ratchet instead, and near-instant pedal pickup is the difference between cleaning a technical climb and stalling on it. It’s arguably the best argument for putting a hub this good on a singlespeed.

Can I build this with normal spokes?

Yes. This is the Classic hub, which takes standard J-bend spokes – so any decent spoke will do and you’re not tied to Industry Nine’s proprietary alloy ones. That’s the difference between these and I9’s System wheels, which is where most of the confusion comes from.

We build wheels in-house, so if you’d like it laced to a rim, tell us the rim and we’ll quote the build with it.
